A Simple Guide To Pricing Your Wedding Gown For Consignment

At L'Archive Bridal, one of the most common questions we receive is:

“How much should I sell my gown for?”

The bridal resale market works very differently to purchasing a gown new, so we created this simple guide to help you understand:

  • how bridal resale pricing works

  • what buyers are realistically shopping for

  • and how to position your gown successfully within the current Adelaide bridal market

For many of our consignors, resale is not only about recovering part of their investment, it is also about helping make bridal fashion and wedding celebrations more accessible for all kinds of people, budgets, styles, and all bridal celebrations.

Every gown resold gives someone else the opportunity to find something special they may not otherwise have had access to.

STEP 1

Has Your Gown Been Worn?

Worn Once / Loved

Most pre-loved wedding gowns sell for:

Around 30–50% of original retail

This is completely normal within bridal resale.

Things that affect pricing include:

  • age of the gown

  • alterations

  • condition

  • current trends

  • designer demand

  • how saturated the style is online

Never Worn / Tags Attached

These gowns can often achieve:

around 50–60% of original retail

Particularly if:

  • the style is current or super unique

  • the gown is unaltered

  • the designer is in demand

  • or production wait times are long when purchasing new

STEP 2

Is Your Gown Particularly Unique?

Some gowns may sit slightly outside standard resale pricing.

Examples may include:

  • couture construction

  • custom design work

  • luxury fabrics

  • detailed embellishment

  • fashion-forward silhouettes

  • colourful or alternative bridal looks

  • cultural ceremony pieces

  • highly sought-after designers

  • discontinued styles with demand

These pieces may retain stronger value, however resale pricing still needs to align with the current market and buyer behaviour.

STEP 3

Think About The Final Customer Price

This is the step many sellers forget to consider.

At L'Archive Bridal:

  • the agreed sale price is split:

    • 65% to you

    • 35% to us

  • GST is also added to the final customer purchase price

Example

If your gown is priced at:

$2,000

The customer sees:

$2,200 including GST

This is important when deciding what feels realistic within the bridal resale market.

STEP 4

Ask Yourself: What Is My Goal?

I Want A Faster Sale

Generally, gowns:

under $1,500 including GST

tend to receive the strongest enquiry volume.

Well-priced gowns often move faster and reach a wider range of buyers.

I Want To Maximise My Return

Higher pricing can work best for:

  • luxury designers

  • current styles

  • never-worn gowns

  • unique bridal pieces

  • highly desirable fabrics or silhouettes

However, sales may take longer while waiting for the right buyer.

There is no right or wrong approach, it simply depends on your priorities.

STEP 5

Consider The Current Market

Buyers are comparing your gown against:

  • Facebook Marketplace

  • Still White

  • online resale stores

  • sample sales

  • and heavily discounted new gowns

If a designer or style is widely available online already, pricing may need to be more competitive to stand out.

Sometimes a gown can be beautiful, but simply priced too closely to purchasing new.

A Helpful Pricing Mindset

Instead of asking:

“What did I pay?”

Try asking:

“What would feel exciting, special, and worthwhile for someone shopping bridal resale today?”

The gowns that tend to sell most successfully are usually:

  • realistically priced

  • beautifully presented

  • and easy for buyers to emotionally connect with

More Than Just Resale

At L'Archive Bridal, we believe bridalwear should feel accessible, expressive, and welcoming to many different kinds of people and celebrations.

Consignment helps create space for:

  • alternative bridal styles

  • modern and non-traditional looks

  • varied budgets

  • sustainable shopping choices

  • and more accessible pathways into bridal fashion within Adelaide

Every gown resold allows another person to celebrate in something meaningful, beautiful, and uniquely their own.

A Final Note

We know wedding gowns hold both financial and emotional value, and pricing them can feel surprisingly personal.

Our goal is always to help you price your gown thoughtfully, realistically, and successfully within the current bridal resale market.

A well-priced gown not only tends to sell faster, it also gives someone else the opportunity to create their own memories in a piece that already carries a beautiful story.
